Did you catch my reel yesterday ...

Did you catch my reel yesterday with 3 handy tips for latching? Here are some photos to go with it!

? 1- Sandwich the breast in the same direction as the mouth. Your nipple and baby’s mouth are 2 puzzle pieces that need to fit together! Don’t make it harder by sandwiching nose to chin instead of cheek to cheek. This is also the perfect time to tip the nipple up towards the roof of the mouth.

? 2 - Keep your fingers clear of the areola. You want your baby to fit as much of your areola in their mouth as possible. When your fingers are right at the base of the nipple baby’s lips have no where to land! After hand expressing your drops of milk, back fingers AWAY from the areola.

? 3&4 - New babies are floppy and feel extremely delicate. I see all the time that parent’s want to hold the back of baby’s head while they’re latching. Pressure on the back of their head actually forces the chin to tuck down and the forehead to lean into the breast. Instead, hold the base of baby’s head/their neck with your thumb behind one ear and your other fingers behind the other ear, use the palm of your hand to support their shoulders. Once you get the hang of this you’ll realize that THIS is actually way more supportive of their neck!

I’m full of lots more tips like this, stick around for more!
