In a perfect world, every mother ...

In a perfect world, every mother that wants to breastfeed will have a baby that latches and nurses well and a bountiful milk supply. In general I like to make breastfeeding approachable, exciting, and positive. And it most certainly can be all of these things!

It can also be other things!

The truth is that babies are tiny people, and just like grown people, they can have health challenges, they can have physical struggles, and they can have a huge range of personalities. Same goes for mothers.

Sometimes circumstances (very early delivery, tough delivery, difficulty transitioning after delivery, baby’s health, mother’s health, anatomical restrictions or other things) can make nursing difficult.

If this is you and your baby - I see you. ?

When it comes to feeding new babies I want you to know that nothing needs a perfect start to work. We have 3 priorities - 1) Feed the baby 2) Protect your milk supply 3) Bring together the puzzle pieces to try to meet YOUR feeding goals.

I say it all the time, but every journey is different and worthy. It doesn’t need to be all or nothing. And you don’t need to do it alone! Find good support, like an IBCLC!
